          Understand that living organisms share the following characteristics

There are 8 life processes which most living things do:

• Nutrition – they make their own food (plants) or eat other organisms (animals)

• Excrete – they get rid of toxic waste products

• Movement – the action of muscles (animals) or slow growth (plants)

• Growth – they increase in size and mass, using materials from their food

• Respond to stimuli – they are sensitive to changes in their environment

• Respire – they get energy from their food

• Reproduce – they produce offspring

• Control – they control their internal conditions
